Did you know that in a twenty year span between 1840 to 1860 rail line track increased by more than ten times according to The American Nation. Discrepancies in rail lines between the South and the North greatly affected the Civil War. Lincoln’s idea of a Transcontinental Railroad helped unite the nation in the years following the Civil War. Economic systems in the country changed greatly due to railroads. Because of Lincoln's influence, railroads helped expand America into the great country it is today. Lincoln pushed hard for railroads and railroads helped America economically and militarily through the 1800's into even today.
